The United Arab Emirates introduced new category of Visa called the “Green Visa” and is part of a broader series of measures taken by the Arab world to boost the economy. The Green Visa distinguishes between work permits and residence visas.
Who is Eligible for Green Visa?
The green visa is for highly qualified individuals, investors, entrepreneurs, and outstanding students and graduates.
Advantages Of Green Visa
- Foreigners will be allowed to work in the UAE without being sponsored by an Employer.
- It will also relax visa restrictions for the self-employed, widows and single ladies.
- People with green visas will be self-sufficient and can sponsor their parents and children.
Difference Between Residence Visa and Green Visa
Previously, the United Arab Emirates linked the residence status of foreigners to employment. Employers are considered guarantors or sponsors of foreigners.
If foreigners lost their job, they were forced to leave the country within a month or find a new job to stay in the UAE.
Additionally, parents used to sponsor their daughter’s residency visa until she got married
The son could only be sponsored until age 18 under Normal Residence Visa however with Green Visa the son can be sponsored up to 25 years of age.
